The Pre-Conference will be a highly interactive workshop that will help build your skills in telling the story of your Library. In the morning we will be taking a look at the building blocks of a good library fundraising and communications plan including reviewing key trends in the industry, setting fundraising priorities, exploring the right metrics to keep on track, developing strategies for taking care of and building your donor base, and determining what the roles and responsibilities are for your team (Deans, Development Officers, Advisory Boards, Friends groups, etc.) for maximum success. In the afternoon we will focus on the nuts and bolts of donor engagement including strategies for getting an appointment, asking the right questions, finding creative ways to engage your donors, and how to never hear ‘no’ again with artful solicitations. The day will include a lot of hands-on activities and by the end you will be able to walk away with action plans that you can immediately implement. It will focus on those of us who are relatively new to the world of library development as well as provide insights and new ideas for the seasoned among us.
Karen Osborne consults with large and small national and international groups focused on advocacy, arts, education, faith-, healthcare, justice and social service, not-for-profits and higher education institutions. Firsthand experience backs Karen’s work. For 18 of her 34 years in the business, Karen led outstanding philanthropy operations and successfully managed campaigns as large as $200,000,000. As a consultant and campaign counsel, her experience is wide and varied including helping organizations and institutions develop and engage high performing boards, build internal capacity and achieve campaigns as large as $500,000,000.
